If you’ve ever met a real Yogi, you will not hear “I do yoga.” “Doing” yoga makes it sound as if there is only one kind and everyone does the same thing.
Instead, a Yogi will say, I PRACTICE yoga. Each person works on their own practice and improves with time.
Sales is like Yoga for 3 Reasons:
1. There is NO BEST Yogi or sales person.
Practice all you want, you will never be the best. Sorry! You might be REALLY good on the phone or in front of clients, but there is always room for improvement. Your personal best is what matters most.
2. YOU are the most important person in the room.
Focusing on the yogi or sales person next to you will not help your game. You are the only one in the room. Give every move your BEST.

3. It’s all about the BREATH.
Inhale and move into downward dog. Exhale then ask for the sale. Inhale into triangle pose. Exhale and then respond to a difficult question. Breath before you move. Breath before you speak. Conscious breathing allows us to move with intention instead of reaction.
Clients aren’t looking for a cookie cutter, one-size-fits-all sales person. Each client prefers a different personality type and you may just be that salesperson they are looking for! Embrace your strong poses.
In your new hire sales training, I’m sure they show videos and role play with what you are “supposed to” say and how to say it. What if you have your own way to get the message across? Use it! If you are a passionate and enthusiastic person, those are strengths, not weaknesses. If you have a weak pose or skill, improve the “poses” regarding product knowledge, that is where you practice.
There is no perfect sales person. Our goal is to find our areas of strength and play them up while practicing our improvement areas.
Namaste!
