It’s true. I judge. You judge. We all judge based on EVERYTHING and you will be judged Fresh On the Job. What does that mean to you? How can you prepare to be judged on your first day on the job? Throwing 3 tips at you: 1. Dress As once said in the amazing “Boiler Room” movie- “Dress for the job you want, not the job you have.” Do you see six-figure money makers walking around in frayed khaki pants and a dis-colored short sleeve polo? Hell no! They may have started with 2 pairs of nice slacks, 3 quality work shirts, and one pair of solid shoes- but you’d better believe they take the BEST care of those. Dress to impress. With time, you will have enough slacks to fill your walk-in closet. Step it up: buy 1 designer article every 2 months using an online auction like www.ebay.com or www.giltman.com. Whether you like it or not, you have to look the part. 2. The Handshake Firm and hard. Your hand, sicko! You mean business, right? A solid grip and eye contact sends the message of confidence – no matter what, you are the one for the job. This message is what you want to communicate right off the bat! Step it Up: For the next week, when you meet someone new, extend your hand, firmly grip their hand for 3-4 seconds and do not break eye contact when you introduce yourself. 3. Get and give Contact Information “But why do I need this guys info? He manufacturers toothbrushes for monkeys!” Dude- you never know. Mr. Fluoride’s sister may be the Director of Operations at an account you are trying to crack open. Toothbrushes for monkey’s could make it big and Mr. Fluoride may need to buy some of what you’re sellin! Not only get contact info every time but give yours and FOLLOW UP. I met a guy last month who started a baby picture service. I am no where near needing that service but I got his card, followed up, and he is helping me with idea’s and editing for my own site. It’s your first Impresh. Make it good.
